Gisele Bundchen Launches Eco-friendly Skincare Line
Brazilian beauty and earth-loving model and new mom Gisele Bundchen is here to help us and the environment by sharing the secrets to beautiful natural skin with her new beauty line launching on March 15 People magazine reports. Bundchen, who is a UN ambassador for environmental issues, is launching an eco-friendly line of products called Seeja Pure Skincare.
Gisele decided upon the brand's name as a play on the word seja, meaning "to be" in Portuguese, her first language. The extra "a" was added at the end because "words have a vibration, and aaah! is an exhalation, what you feel when you let go," she told Vogue Magazine.
The line is promises to deliver all-natural ingredients, “thoughtful” packaging and recycled paper;
as a result a revolutionary skincare line that protects and supports your skin's natural radiance, while also protecting the health and beauty of our environment.
The three-product line, which is sold solely on the brand's website, consists of a Day Cream, Night Cream ($70), and Mud Mask ($56). It also features a Pure Skincare Kit ($120), which includes a two-ounce jar of each product, a spa towel, and a mud applicator.
This isn’t the supermodel’s only new project, she also shot ads this winter for Brazilian fashion line Coccli and also Supermodel and husband Tom Brady have recently shown their support for WWF’s Earth Hour by filming two videos that encourage people around the world to join them in turning off their lights for Earth Hour on Saturday, March 27th at 8:30 pm.

All-Natural and Delicious Homemade Beauty Recipes
Sublime Sunflower Scrub
Sunflower seeds, rich in vitamin E oil, make an excellent facial scrub. This recipe can be used to cleanse your skin, leaving your face incredibly soft and smooth. You may also use it for an all-over, full-body treatment.

1/2 cup raw sunflowers seeds, shelled
Distilled water for mixing
In a food processor or coffee grinder, process the raw seeds until you have a fine powder that resembles coarse sugar. Pour into a clean container with a tight-fitting lid. Mix 1 tablespoon of the ground sunflower seeds with a few teaspoons of water to create a smooth paste. You can do this in the palm of your hand or in a ceramic bowl. Massage the mixture into your face and neck, and rinse well with warm water followed by cool water. Pat your skin dry with a soft towel.
Yields: 4 oz, enough for eight facial treatments or one full-body treatment
Chocolate Lip Gloss
This lip gloss, made from blending together cocoa butter and chocolate, is an excellent lip conditioner with a mildly sweet taste.

1 1/2 teaspoons grated cocoa butter
1/2 teaspoon coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon vitamin E oil
1/4 teaspoon grated chocolate or 3 small chocolate chips (milk or dark, depending on your taste)
In a double broiler or the microwave, heat the cocoa butter, coconut oil and vitamin E oil gently until melted. Stir in the chocolate and keep stirring until melted and well blended. Pour into a small lip gloss container and allow to cool completely. Spread on lips with a clean fingertip or lip brush.
Yields: 1/2 oz
Cleopatra Milk Bath
Although no one knows exactly what Cleopatra looked like, there's no doubt that her beauty was captivating. One of her greatest beauty secrets was her milk bath. With this recipe, you can enjoy a milk bath like Cleopatra in your own home.

1 tablespoon dried rosemary
1 tablespoon dried thyme
1 tablespoon dried mint
Peel of 1 orange
Peel of 1 lemon
2 cups boiling water
1 small (9.6-oz) box dried milk, enough to make 3 quarts; if you have oily skin, use nonfat milk powder
Combine the herbs and citrus peels in a large ceramic bowl. Pour the boiling water over the herbs and peels and allow to steep for several hours (even overnight). Strain off the liquid, removing all solids. Add the milk powder to this solution. Draw a warm (not hot) bath, and pour the entire mixture into the bath water. Soak in the tub for as long as you like, but at least 20 minutes. Rinse the milk off your skin with warm water; you don't want it to sour on your skin, creating an unpleasant smell. Pat dry and moisturize your body.
Yields: Approximately 16 oz, enough for one bath
It's important to eat plenty of fruits and vegetables, which help produce healthy skin and hair from the inside out. You can also put fresh "green" ingredients on your body; they add moisture to your skin, making it soft and smooth.

1 cup sliced fresh carrot root
2 cups fresh spinach leaves
1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
2 cups fresh, sliced zucchini squash
1/2 cup vegetable water (see instructions) or fresh water
1/2 cup French green clay or any natural clay
Combine all the fresh vegetables in a steamer or microwave-safe container. Steam until they are soft and tender and can easily be pierced with a fork. Let the vegetables cool completely and save 1/2 cup of their cooking water as the vegetable water. Place the cooked vegetables and water in a blender or food processor and process until smooth. Using a fork or whisk, stir in the natural clay. When you finish mixing, you should have a smooth, creamy, pale green mixture. Spread the mask all over your body using your fingers or a small paintbrush. Let it sit on your skin for 10 to 15 minutes. Rinse off the mixture in a warm shower and use a rich moisturizer afterward.
Yields: 10 oz, enough for one treatment

Simple Ideas for an Eco-Friendly Living Space
Many people think they have to do mayor undertaking and renovation to be greener, you can if you want of course, but in fact you can start by taking small steps to help the planet. There are many little things that each of us can do by doing simple and inexpensive tweaks to reduce waste and chemicals and save fuel and other natural resources. Just take a look at these great ideas to create an eco-friendly home:
Find new uses for old stuff. Turn a wine bottle into a vase and a ladder into a towel rack. Re-purposing things conserves manufacturing energy and landfill space. Check out these cool repurposing ideas.
Try organic-cotton towels. The cotton is grown pesticide-free, and they're fluffy ($5-$15 each, westelm.com). Also, use fabric shower curtains; they have a longer shelf life than the plastic kind, and once you toss them out, they do decompose in landfills.
Add color, not chemicals. Applying regular paint releases toxins that drift from homes into the atmosphere and contribute to air pollution. Look for companies that sell non-volatile organic compounds (VOC) or low-VOCs. They are better for the environment. Try this eco favorite: Benjamin Moore's Aura ($55 a gallon, myaurapaint.com for stores).
Try organic sheets, while you're at it. These 350-thread-count Pottery Barn ones ($89 for full size) feel luxe; Target's organic line is also soft. And don't limit yourself to sheets--go for comforters and duvets in organic cotton, wool or silk, too.
Buy the right wood. Yes, wood furniture and knickknacks are long lasting and stylish, but ecologically, the best pieces are from well-managed forests; look for a seal from the Forest Stewardship Council.
Use eco wallpaper. Look for wallpapers made with nontoxic glues and environmentally friendly fabric. Try Madison and Grow, the wallpaper is hand silk-screened using water-based ink. The papers are clay coated for extra durability and can be wiped with a damp sponge. Their manufacturing process emits no VOC’s.
Control the temperature with window shades. Reducing the amount of fuel used for heating and electricity used for air-conditioning are two key things you can do. Raise shades in winter to let in sunlight and lower them in summer to block out rays.
Buy vintage. The short explanation: New pieces take natural resources to produce; retro ones don't require any. Find deals at ebay.com, garage sales and thrift shops--or raid your grandma's attic for everything from rockers to china. Another great alternative is to buy refurbished/redesigned recycled furniture if rummage sales and a bit of DIY aren’t your thing. Try MetroSofa.com which has Green furniture that is simply gorgeous.
Switch to natural cleaners. They are just as effective as regular products--minus the chemicals that get washed down the drain and can end up in water systems. Mrs. Meyer's makes nice-smelling ones that work for every room in the house (from $5, mrsmeyers.com). You can also make your own non-toxic household cleaners.

10 Ways To Make Your Wardrobe Sustainable

If having a more sustainable wardrobe is your goal this year, you are in luck! While some might think that eco-friendly fashion just means clothing made with organic cotton or recycled yarns, There are actually many ways to have a greener wardrobe - some very simple, and some require a little more work, but its a well-worth effort to keep the environment safe and can make your outfits more interesting and unique as well!
1.Keep what you already own. Really? Can it be that easy? Yes! Just because the clothes currently in your closet weren't eco-friendly to begin with doesn't mean you should throw them out and start from scratch. Wearing what you already own requires no new materials, no water or energy to produce it, and no shipping. It's the most green thing you can do.
2. Don't wash them so much. Washing machines consume huge amounts of water and energy, while utilizing harsh detergents and chemicals that do the environment no favors. Try to wash full loads less frequently, and line dry if possible. And avoid dry cleaning if you can.
3. Buy pre-owned fashion. If you do want to buy something, shop vintage. When you buy used clothing, you're recycling it, saving it from the landfill. And it required no additional resources to produce it.
4. Buy clothes that last. When you do need to purchase a new item of clothing, choose something that will last for years- not just in terms of durability, but timelessness in style. A classic dress made with inorganic cotton that you keep for 20 years is a lot more eco-friendly than a trendy one made with organic hemp that you only wear for one season.
5. Shop for new clothes made from recycled ones. Perhaps inspired by their class projects from fashion college, some innovative, up and coming designers are creating entire fashion lines constructed of fabric from cast-off clothing. That means old men's dress shirts given new life as skirts, or vintage kimonos reincarnated as wedding gowns.
6. Buy new clothes and accessories made from recycled non-clothing. New technologies are making it possible for manmade objects like plastic water bottles to be shredded and woven into fibers to make sweaters and socks. You can find handbags made of recycled candy wrappers, and shoes made from old rubber tires. Everything old is indeed new again.
7. Look for organic fabrics. Because most major retailers and fashion design labels are using organic fabrics as their entree into the eco-friendly category, consumers are increasingly more familiar with organic cotton, linen, wool, and hemp. To be certified organic, the natural materials used in the fabric must be farmed without pesticides and herbicides.
8. Beware of "greenwashing." Many fashion companies like to claim that their clothes are green, but they may be jumping on the green bandwagon while actually harming the earth. For example, many companies are touting bamboo this and bamboo that, since the public perception is that bamboo is green. But not all bamboo is created equal. True, the plant is renewable, but forests and animal habitats are being cleared to make way for some plantations.
9. Shop locally. Clothing made in the United States or, better yet, your hometown, reduces the amount of energy needed to ship that garment to your neighborhood store. And you're supporting the local economy.
10. Demand Fair Trade Practices. Besides the material and energy resources required to make a garment, more light has been shed in recent years on the human resources. Environmentally conscious consumers are urging manufacturers to cease child labor and sweat shop conditions, instead providing employees with fair wages, reasonable hours, safe working conditions, and access to health care.
While some shopping behaviors, such as buying only fair trade merchandise, can be difficult and expensive, it's nice to know that some of the greenest things you can do for your wardrobe are actually easy and free.
